The general objective of the S2IGI project is to contribute to the reduction of damage caused by forest fires to the environment and economic activities through the development of a software system useful for planning tactical-strategic interventions aimed both to the prevention and management of forest fires, and to post-fire recovery.
The software system will integrate the innovative data processing techniques with high spatial and temporal resolution provided by new satellite technologies , accurate forecasts elaborated from meteorological models and simulations of the propagation of forest fires.
To develop a modeling system for the spatial estimation of the probability and intensity of fire, of the economic value of the exposed and of the risk and of the potential hazard index in the short term.
Develop decision support tools, based on and on fire risk assessment for planning preventive and mitigation actions.
Provide support tools for the optimization of the distribution of active fight resources available at the territorial centers and for interventions to reduce the fuel load.
To develop a satellite data processing system for real-time and high-frequency monitoring of ongoing fires.
Develop probabilistic and real-time simulation tools for flame front propagation.
Provide the decision maker with elements for evaluating the behavior of a fire in progress and the type and method of intervention to be organized.
Develop an automatic system for mapping the areas covered by the fire in order to plan appropriate post-fire management measures and to facilitate the perimeter with GPS for the imposition of legal restrictions.
To develop tools for quantifying the forest and economic damage caused by the passage of the fire.
Provide tools for identifying areas at risk of post-fire erosion.
